BT Projects

BT Business ICT

"Sharon is a good and clear communicator with very strong people skills. She has brought intellectual strength, clarity of thinking and a willingness to challenge assumptions to the team."
Mick Hegarty, Director of Marketing, BT Business.

Summary of activity

  • With traditional markets under increasing competition, BT Business was looking to drive significant new revenues from providing new wave services to SME customers.
  • As Head of ICT propositions Sharon lead the team to develop the portfolio and lead new marketing programmes. Key to meeting the challenge was the creation and management of a project that brought £78m of new business for ICT managed solutions by focusing on building relationships with a neglected base of UK medium-sized customers.
  • Additionally, Sharon and her team delivered a 50% revenue growth over 2 consecutive years by developing propositions based on Cisco solutions targeted at and promoted to SME customers.

BT Women's Network

Sharon Wilding Women's Network Chair

"Sharon was the catalyst for BT Women's Network new global outreach, as well as the UK programme.  Her leadership and vision was inspirational. We expanded to 5 new satellites in the Americas under her direction, and growing still!"
Deanna McRae King, Former Chair BT Women's Network - North America.

Summary of activity

  • The BTWN was 20 years old in 2006.  This was a significant cause for celebration, but also an ideal opportunity to relaunch the network and confirm its relevance to helping to increase the participation of women in the workplace in the 21st century.
  •   As Chair of the BTWN, Sharon Wilding focused on re-energising and motivating the committee, and revised the strategy around the proposition ‘Connecting for success'.  A full programme of celebratory activities was organised by the volunteer force, culminating in the Gala dinner which raised £20,000 for the charity ChildLine.
  • To drive greater engagement in the network from the 5000 strong membership (based in the UK, Europe and America), Sharon launched an Online Network, unique within BT but based on the successful model already operated by software development company, Yellowhawk.  The Women's Network set the standard for all the other diversity networks within BT.

BT Wholesale Engage

BT Wholesale

"This initiative has been a resounding success. The whole approach taken, with a greater use of on-line techniques, the tighter targeting of events, and clear focus on measurement and reporting, is a case study in marketing excellence."
Brian Fitzpatrick, Managing Director, BT Wholesale Markets.

Summary of activity

  • Faced with increasing revenue targets but declining customer and salesteam engagement in marketing activity, Sharon Wilding, as Head of Marketing, developed an integrated communications strategy that would focus on improving customers' relationships with BT Wholesale.
  • Working with strategic events agency, McMenemy Hill, a central website, BT Wholesale Engage, was created to deliver industry news and education to customers. A programme of interactive online and face-to-face events was put in place, working closely with the salesteams, to strengthen and deepen customer relationships.
  • As a direct result 1626 opportunities were created with a contract value of £797m, and the 2007/8 full year sales target of £869m was delivered in just over 6 months.  The programme won the Business to Business award at the New Media Age Effectiveness Awards 2008.
